Job summary

First Military Recruitment is seeking a Generator Field Service Engineer to join a growing South East operation in Eastleigh, Hampshire. You will carry out servicing and repairs on diesel generator sets, delivering high standards of customer service with independence and in collaboration with internal teams.

The role requires mechanical/electrical engineering qualifications, fault-finding prowess, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (City & Guilds/BTEC or apprenticeship).
• Experience servicing and repairing generator sets (FG Wilson, Cummins or similar).
• Full UK driving licence and strong fault-finding skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing and preventive maintenance on diesel generators.
• Diagnose faults and repair rental generators.
• Conduct site surveys to assess customer requirements.
• Participate in on-call rota for out-of-hours support.
• Maintain health and safety standards and keep vehicles/work areas clean and safe.
• Adhere to company quality, environmental, and safety procedures.
• Deliver excellent customer service and build relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Support continuous improvement within the engineering team.

JR326: Generator Field Service Engineer

Location: Eastleigh, Hampshire

Salary: £33,750 - £40,000 Per Annum + Progression + Bonus + Overtime + Company Vehicle

Overview:

First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to support a growing South East operation, carrying out maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a fleet of rental generators. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high levels of customer service while working both independently and alongside internal teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel generators.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs on rental generators, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently.
• Conduct site surveys to assess customer requirements and maintenance needs.
• Participate in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support when required.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring company vehicles and work areas are clean, safe, and well organised.
• Comply with company quality, environmental, energy management, and health & safety procedures.
• Deliver excellent customer service while building positive working relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the success of the engineering team.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, Plant Maintenance, or a similar discipline (e.g. City & Guilds or BTEC), or completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• Proven experience servicing and repairing generator sets, particularly FG Wilson, Cummins, or similar equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Previous experience in a field service engineering role is advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• ECS, CSCS or CCNSG card is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
