Job summary

Generator Engineer role based in Glasgow with a well-established specialist in power generation solutions. You'll service, maintain and repair a varied fleet of diesel generators at customer sites, ensuring high standards and excellent customer service.

Expect strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills, autonomy, and the ability to work to deadlines. On-call rota included; company van, laptop and mobile phone provided.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with mechanical/electrical engineering or diesel fitting.
  • Familiar with electronic systems and mechanical components (engines/alternators).
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned services and maintenance of generator equipment.
  • Fault find and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Identify required specialist equipment and connectors.
  • Utilise testing equipment for repair and maintenance.
  • Ensure equipment meets customer specifications.
  • Attend equipment breakdowns to support service delivery.
  • Be part of the on-call rota.
  • Overtime may be required.

Generator Engineer

On-call rota: 1 in 4

We're working with a well-established specialist in power generation solutions, looking to add an experienced Generator Engineer to their growing engineering in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills who enjoys working on a varied fleet of diesel generators, supporting customers across multiple industries.

A successful Generator Engineer candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing generators primarily at customer sites, ensuring equipment is maintained to the highest standard and delivering exceptional customer service.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To carry out planned services and maintenance of company equipment.
  • To accurately fault find and diagnose both mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Identify required specialist equipment and connectors.
  • Utilisation of the proper testing equipment for effective repair and maintenance
  • Ensure all equipment is set up as required by Contract Customer's Specifications
  • Modify generator fleet where required following instruction from the Technical Manager.
  • Repair and maintain machinery as per company and manufacturer requirements.
  • Attend equipment breakdowns as necessary to support the delivery of excellence customer service levels.
  • This may require the post holder to work overtime, sometimes with short notice.
  • Any other technical-related service as required by the business.
  • Be part of the on-call Rota system.
  • Support the development of high-performance teams by attending planned training, positively engaging
    with the training provider.
  • Adherence to the John F Hunt Integrated Management Systems including Health and Safety,
  • Environmental and Quality and all associated policies, standards, procedures and records.
  • Ad hoc duties as the job requires.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Well organised and able to prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within strict deadlines to high standards with excellent attention to
  • detail.
  • Confident self-starter.
  • Experience with mechanical/electrical engineering or diesel fitting.
  • Familiar with electronic systems and mechanical components (including engines and alternators).
  • Deep Sea knowledge and or synchronising experience.
  • Good IT skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, confident, friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to prioritise on a daily basis a variety of tasks as and when they arise and deal with them with full
  • confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Experience of working in a team and on own initiative with minimum supervision.
