Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in West Essex is seeking a Trust Registrar (ST3+) in General Surgery. The post holder will deliver inpatient ward care, undertake ward rounds, support outpatient clinics, assist in theatre, and participate in the Emergency General Surgery on-call rota, contributing to audit, governance and service development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality inpatient care for general surgery patients, including independent ward rounds and supervising junior doctors.
• Assess, investigate and manage acute surgical admissions via Emergency Department and SDEC.
• Participate in the Emergency General Surgery on-call rota, providing specialist advice for urgent referrals and on-call emergencies.
• Attend and contribute to outpatient clinics across multiple sites, managing new and follow-up patients under consultant supervision.
• Assist in elective and emergency surgical procedures under consultant supervision.
• Collaborate with consultants, nursing teams and the MDT to ensure safe, effective, patient-centred care.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement to advance the surgical service.
• Support the teaching and supervision of junior doctors and other clinical staff.
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust policies and governance requirements.
