Provide holistic assessment and treatment for patients with complex needs to promote safe, timely discharges, aligned with our Patient First approach.

Main duties of the job
  • Assess and treat complex patients independently, determining diagnoses and treatment plans without supervision.
  • Support senior staff in planning and organizing team activities.
  • Supervise and appraise junior physiotherapists, assistants, and students, and contribute to MDT teaching.
  • Engage in evidence-based practice, research, data collection, and audits.
  • Follow departmental protocols, Trust policies, and professional standards.
  • Remain competent for respiratory on-call duties and participate in future 7-day services if applicable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communication

  • Adapt communication to encourage patient participation, including those with communication difficulties or cognitive impairments.
  • Assess capacity, obtain informed consent, and work within legal frameworks.
  • Motivate, reassure, and effectively communicate with patients and carers, including delivering sensitive information.
  • Diffuse challenging situations using negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate findings to relevant staff.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams through meetings and ward rounds.

Service Delivery and Improvement

  • Evaluate practice through audits and research.
  • Support junior staff in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Understand and apply Clinical Governance and Risk Management principles.
  • Manage equipment safely and adhere to policies and standards.

People Management and Development

  • Assist in supervising and developing junior staff and students.
  • Lead projects to enhance services with senior guidance.
  • Prioritize and manage own time effectively to balance patient care, training, and meetings.
  • Participate in departmental and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Report incidents and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage the clinical team operationally in the absence of the team leader.

Patient Care Delivery
