Job Description:
Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated physiotherapist to fill a band 6 rotational post (for 18 months) within the cardiorespiratory physiotherapy team at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 5 physiotherapist or band 6 therapist, with a specialist interest in paediatric respiratory physiotherapy, to join our dynamic, forward-thinking, and friendly team. The team includes a band 8 physiotherapist, seven full-time band 7s, two general rotational band 6 physiotherapists, and a band 4 assistant. You will gain extensive cardiorespiratory skills through rotations on PICU/NICU and CICU, as well as cystic fibrosis and acute respiratory medicine. Participation in the out-of-hours respiratory physiotherapy service is expected. Previous respiratory and paediatric experience is essential; PICU and cardiothoracic experience is desirable.

Main duties of the job
  • To undertake all aspects of your clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your work.
  • To accept clinical responsibility for your caseload and prioritize appropriately, working without direct supervision. Support from senior physiotherapists is available as needed.
  • To conduct comprehensive assessments of paediatric respiratory patients, including those with complex presentations, using specialised investigative and analytical skills.
  • Provide 24-hour emergency chest physiotherapy coverage via an on-call service after normal working hours. Overtime duties are expected as required.
  • Assess competency in respiratory skills with a senior respiratory therapist before commencing on-call duties, with annual reassessment.
  • Supervise assistants daily.
  • Organize and plan your caseload to meet service and patient priorities, adjusting plans as situations change.
