Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Altcourse, a Category B men's prison and young offenders institution based in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool in Merseyside. Ideal applicants would be experienced general practitioners who have previous prescribing experience and supporting patients with substance misuse needs. HMP Altcourse is a fast-paced environment where you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

We are offering a part-time position with hours on Saturday from 2pm to 6pm, comprising one face-to-face session on-site with patients at HMP Altcourse. The annual salary ranges between £110,000 and £120,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Main Duties of the Job

Our General Practitioners are valued members of the prison healthcare community. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality healthcare to a diverse patient group, with opportunities to develop in various clinical areas
  • Providing clinical assessments and diagnoses, and making timely management decisions
  • Supporting other healthcare team members and participating in clinical governance activities

Qualifications Required
  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
  • Experience in community general practice
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Ability to work with patients with substance misuse history
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or willingness to undertake these qualifications
