Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a General Porter to provide an efficient portering service across the site, transporting patients, specimens, goods and equipment. You will respond to emergencies and handle deceased transfers when required while maintaining privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

• Urgent adhoc and scheduled tasks using the correct equipment within required response times.

Responsibilities

• Undertake urgent adhoc and scheduled tasks using the correct equipment within the required response times and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
• Respond to emergency calls (e.g. cardiac arrest, fire) in line with Trust procedures.
• Undertake portering tasks as requested by supervisors and managers.
• Ensure transport equipment is kept clean and in good order and report defects quickly.
• Transport patients in accordance with procedures with dignity and respect.
• Move deceased patients to the Mortuary and prepare for viewing out of hours as required.
• Perform duties in a courteous, sympathetic manner with privacy and confidentiality.

Job description

As a Porter, your role will be to provide an efficient high quality portering service, which meets the work schedules and required ad hoc response times including emergency responses. This role includes the transportation of patients, specimens, goods, blood products, medical gases, and equipment around the site. No VISA sponsorship available for this role Please be aware that we reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a suitable number of applications.

• To undertake all urgent adhoc and scheduled tasks using the correct equipment within the required response times and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
• Respond to emergency calls e.g. cardiac arrest, fire, lift release etc in accordance with Trust procedures.
• To undertake all portering tasks, as requested by the supervisors, and managers.
• To ensure the transportation equipment is kept clean and in working order, and to report any defects to the Supervisor / Manager to be rectified as quickly as possible.
• Transport patients as per Departmental and Trust procedures, with due regard to their dignity and respect.
• Move deceased patients to the Mortuary from wards and to prepare deceased patients for viewing out of hours as and when required.
• To undertake duties in a courteous, sympathetic manner with due regard to privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
