Job summary

YG Engineering Ltd is seeking a General Operative to join its growing sheet metal manufacturing team in Hitchin. This permanent role offers hands-on workshop duties and the chance to contribute to high-quality components.

You will work as part of the production team, using hand and power tools, linishing and finishing metal parts, and supporting fabrication and welding as needed. A positive attitude and reliability are essential.

Responsibilities

• Linishing and finishing welded sheet metal components
• Remove sharp edges, marks and imperfections from parts
• Prepare products for next stage or dispatch
• Assist with general workshop and production duties
• Support fabrication and welding teams as required
• Conduct visual quality checks on completed work
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times

We are recruiting for a General Operative to join a well-established and growing sheet metal manufacturing business supplying high-quality fabricated components to customers across a range of industries.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment and takes pride in producing high-quality finished products.

The Role

Working as part of the production team, you will be involved in a variety of workshop duties, ensuring fabricated and welded sheet metal components are finished to the highest standards before dispatch.

Key responsibilities include:

• Linishing and finishing welded sheet metal components
• Removing sharp edges, marks and imperfections from fabricated parts
• Preparing products for the next stage of manufacture or final dispatch
• Assisting with general workshop and production duties
• Supporting fabrication and welding teams as required
• Conducting visual quality checks on completed work
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
• Following health and safety procedures at all times

What We're Looking For

We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience within manufacturing, fabrication or engineering environments.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment
• Experience using hand and power tools
• Experience linishing, deburring or finishing metal components would be advantageous - training can be provided for the right candidate
• A good eye for detail and quality
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Reliability and excellent timekeeping
