The Property

Centrally located inside the city walls, next to Clifford’s Tower, the Hilton York with 131 bedrooms enjoys a great location in this historic city. Lively bars and restaurants are within walking distance, and we’re less than five minutes from York Castle Museum and Jorvik Viking Center. The National Railway Museum and York Dungeon are within two miles.

The Role

This exciting General Manager position will be responsible for managing the hotel, Hotel Management team, and deliver hotel targets for an excellent Guest and Team Member experience while managing profitability and meeting our Owners expectations.

What will you be doing?

Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

  • Manage and lead the hotel operation.
  • Manage ongoing profitability of the hotel, ensuring revenue, guest satisfaction and Team Member engagement goals are met and exceeded.
  • Lead in all key property issues including capital projects, customer service, and planned bedroom refurbishment.
  • Ensure all decisions are made in the best interest of the hotel and Hilton.
  • Deliver achievable hotel budgets and set other short- and long- term strategic goals for the property.
  • Provide exceptional leadership to hotel Team Members focusing on Hilton culture and values.
  • Lead in all aspects of business planning.
  • Comply with and exceed Hilton Brand Service Standards.
  • Ensure costs are controlled.
  • Manage and develop the Hotel Executive team to ensure career progression and effective succession planning within Hilton.
  • Hold regular briefings and communication meetings with the HOD team.
  • Respond to audits to ensure continual improvement is achieved.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership skills with a strong focus on Owner relations, Commercial and Operations, guest experience and Team Member engagement. Enthusiastic and passionate, this role is ideally suited to an individual looking for their first General Manager position within a similar quality hotel.

  • Ideally suited to an individual looking for their first General Manager position, with the candidate having successfully operated at DO/Commercial Director level and ready for the next step.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and foster networks and relationships, with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver both innovative commercial opportunities and deliver the customer promise.
  • A strong leader with the ability to nurture our award-winning culture.
  • Ability to show resilience, judgement and leadership.
  • Experience managing budgets, revenue proposals, and forecasting results in a similar sized property.
  • In-depth knowledge of the hotel/leisure segment with experience in the local area an advantage/preferred.
  • Degree or diploma in Hotel Management or equivalent.
