Job description

An outstanding opportunity has arisen to join our team at Freedom Leisure, one of the fastest growing and successful leisure and cultural trusts in the UK.

The Marina Centre offers a wide range of activities for residents and visitors, including a leisure pool with two slides, a splash zone, clip and climb, a fitness suite, exercise studios, and a sports hall. The centre also features a café overlooking the beach, serving as a community focal point.

We are a not-for-profit leisure trust committed to supporting local communities and hard-to-reach groups, encouraging them to become more active through various programs such as swimming lessons and walking football.

We seek a General Manager with entrepreneurial skills, financial acumen, and a passion for high standards, who can demonstrate ownership and results delivery. Excellent commercial awareness, the ability to drive sales and manage expenditure, and strong leadership skills are essential. The candidate should be capable of motivating the team and engaging with customers, stakeholders, and the local community.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Business & Sales Management: Overseeing the centre’s performance, developing business plans, and achieving KPIs.
  2. Operational Management: Ensuring high standards, safety, and welcoming environments.
  3. People Management: Recruiting, leading, and developing staff to deliver outstanding leisure services and community engagement.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to juggle multiple priorities, work under pressure, and foster a team-oriented environment. Passion for leisure and cultural services is vital.

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (rota basis)

Requirements:

  • Develop and grow membership, activities, and attendance
  • Manage income and expenditure
  • Act as the site’s lead contact, reporting to the Area Manager
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and processes
  • Manage site audits and produce operational reports and KPIs
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in leisure facilities
  • Experience in staff training, development, and continuous professional development
