Job summary

Farm Girl Ltd in South Kensington is seeking a capable General Manager to own the café’s performance, culture and service excellence on the floor. Lead front-of-house and kitchen teams, drive upselling, stock control and compliance, and build a trusted, positive team environment with hands-on leadership.

This role requires experience in a high-volume hospitality setting, superb customer service, and excellent English communication; you'll recruit, motivate, and develop staff while delivering

Role Responsibilities

As our General Manager, you will take full ownership of the cafe’s performance, culture, and operational excellence. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading by Example : Maintain an enthusiastic, engaged, and passionate approach to food and excellent service. Lead from the floor with a hands-on approach, setting the tone for professionalism, quality, efficiency, and positivity at all times.
• Floor & Service Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day running of the cafe and effectively manage the front-of-house operations. Ensure service standards remain consistently high, delivering an outstanding customer experience.
• Customer Service Excellence: Drive and maintain exceptional customer service standards. Build strong rapport with regular customers and ensure all guest interactions reflect warmth.
• Staff Training & Development: Train and develop all staff to the highest standards, with a particular focus on:
  • Exceptional Customer Service Standards
  • Comprehensive menu knowledge
  • Full understanding of allergens
  • Adherence to Health & Safety regulations
• Team Leadership & Communication: Emphasise the importance of teamwork across Front of House and Kitchen. Encourage initiative, accountability, and collaboration. Lead regular team meetings and ensure clear daily communication through prep lists and handovers.
• Sales & Financial Performance: Drive the team to increase upselling and maximize revenue. Maintain strong GP margins through effective stock control and cost awareness.
• Stock Management & Supplier Relations: Conduct monthly stocktakes. Ensure efficient ordering and clear communication with suppliers and the kitchen team to maintain sufficient daily stock levels.
• Cleanliness & Compliance: Ensure the café consistently maintains the highest levels of cleanliness, organisation and hygiene. Oversee daily opening and closing checklists. Monitor and manage pest control checks with agreed suppliers.
• Online Platforms & Delivery: Manage Deliveroo activity, ensuring item availability is updated and performance is monitored consistently.
• Administration & Organisation :
  • Create and organise FOH rotas
  • Organise regular team meetings
  • Manage ordering and menu updates
  • Approve timesheets
  • Oversee recruitment, including interviews and trial shifts
  • Liaise with HR regarding hiring decisions

Role Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Proven experience in a similar General Manager role within hospitality.
• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
• A hands-on leadership style with the ability to build trust and rapport with employees, management, and customers.
• A positive, resilient, and solutions-focused mindset.
• Strong organisational and financial management skills.
• Experience working in a high-volume environment.
• Great spoken and written English communication skills.
