Job summary

Five Guys is seeking a General Manager for a high-volume Reading restaurant. You will lead a team on the shop floor, drive sales, manage costs, and uphold the brand’s standards for exceptional customer service and high hygiene levels.

You will own the store’s P&L, develop managers, and deliver an engaging working environment aligned with our values. This role offers a clear path for career growth within Five Guys.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of General Management experience in a high-volume hospitality or QSR environment.
• Track record of driving customer satisfaction scores and positive Mystery Shopper results.
• Full P&L ownership with ability to drive top-line sales and control costs (Labour/COGS).
• Experience building a culture, developing managers and creating a strong talent pipeline.
• Strong focus on Food Safety and Health & Safety, with high hygiene standards.

Responsibilities

• Being accountable for your entire store and people, leading from the front and hands-on on the shop floor.
• Create an engaging working environment where staff enjoy coming to work and uphold company values.
• Develop and manage the team while delivering perfect burgers and fries, partnering with Crew and Managers on the line.
• Own the P&L, drive sales and manage costs to maximise gross profit.
• Ensure smooth day-to-day operations and plan for long-term growth; build a strong talent pipeline.
• Manage HR issues and recognise and reward team performance as needed.
• Demonstrate close attention to detail in all store operations.

AS A GENERAL MANAGER, YOU'LL BE RESPONSBILE FOR

• Our people – Being accountable and responsible for your entire store and people within, leading from the front and being hands-on, working on the line and in the dining area
• Creating an awesome working environment where people are happy to come to work and have fun while role modelling our Values - Competitive, Enthusiastic, Family, Get It Done and Integrity
• Developing and managing the team, while supporting the delivery of perfect burgers and fries – jumping in and working on the line shoulder to shoulder with our Crew and Managers
• Having full ownership of your P&L, which means you will need to drive sales whilst controlling costs
• Your store will need to run smoothly on the day-to-day operations and think about long-term planning. Spotting potential and developing your team to ensure there is a strong talent pipeline
• Responsible for managing any HR issues while also being able to reward and recognise when needed
• Demonstrate close attention to detail

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

• Experience: You have a minimum of 2+ years of General Management experience in a high-volume hospitality or QSR environment. You are a seasoned operator who knows how to run a business.
• Customer Satisfaction: You are obsessed with the guest experience and have the numbers to prove it. You have a track record of driving customer satisfaction scores, increasing engagement, and consistently delivering excellent Mystery Shopper results and positive reviews.
• Financial Expertise: You have full P&L ownership. You are an expert at driving top-line sales, managing complex budgets, and controlling costs (Labour/COGS) to maximise GP without compromising on quality.
• Strategic Leadership: You don't just manage a team; you build a culture. You have history of developing managers, planning succession, and creating a strong talent pipeline.
• Operational Excellence: You set the standard. You have total command of Food Safety, Health & Safety compliance, and maintaining 5-star hygiene ratings across the business.
