Job description

We are looking for a commercially focused General Manager to advance our sales and service offerings in the UK. The ideal candidate will excel in developing customer relationships and mentoring staff. Based in the Midlands, with travel across the UK, you should have experience in selling capital equipment and maintenance/service contracts.

Basic Salary:

£70,000 - £80,000

Location:

Field-based role, requiring presence in the office as needed, anywhere within 2 hours of Northampton.

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the UK Managing Director, you will succeed a retiring General Manager with circa 30 years in the role. You will oversee a business segment with a turnover of approximately £7m, comprising £5m in equipment sales and £2m in service revenue, leading 5 direct and 15 indirect reports across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and develop UK Sales and Service teams to meet revenue targets and align with company goals.
  2. Set sales objectives, strategies, and motivate the sales team.
  3. Oversee leadership functions including coaching, performance management, recruitment, and training.
  4. Develop and support Key Account Managers and the After Sales team to maximize revenue.
  5. Report sales performance regularly to the Managing Director and organization.
  6. Conduct market analysis to identify competition and revenue opportunities.
Person Specification:

The successful candidate will be a sales-oriented people manager with a proven track record in account development and team growth, ideally from a capital equipment manufacturing background. Industry experience should include Vehicle Maintenance, Heavy Vehicles, Plant, Trucks, Buses, Off Highway, Military, Defence, Tram, or Rail sectors. You should possess the gravitas and presence to lead a sales strategy and manage a sales budget of £5-15 million, with experience in selling both capital equipment and service offerings.
