Contract:Full time, permanent, 40 hours per week over 5 days to include a weekend day.

Salary:From £34k per annum + Bonus + 30% staff discount + food/drink from an agreed menu during shift breaks. OTE of £37,600

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced operator to proactively manage the Appledore branch of Johns. Ensuring that both the hospitality & retail sides of the business are effectively and profitably run. You will consistently ensure delivery of an exceptional standard of customer service by the team, in addition to promoting a fun and friendly work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct, manage and motivate the team to achieve synergy, whilst demonstrating a keen passion for the hospitality & catering sector and food & drink retail, to ensure that every customer receives an exceptional friendly and knowledgeable service.

Maintain high standards of quality control, licensing, food hygiene & health and safety to ensure legal compliance and a safe environment for customers, visitors & staff.

Effectively manage HR daily to ensure that all staff are highly motivated and achieve goals.

Recruit, select and train all staff to our company standard.

Conduct appraisals and manage any performance or conduct issues appropriately and timely.

Analyse and report on sales targets and margins at weekly meetings with your Operations Manager bringing suggestions for change to manage positive and negative anomalies; ensure goals are met by the whole team.

Management of rotas, stock control and ordering and be accountable for reconciliation and loss investigation in order to minimise wastage and maximise profitability, whilst building strong working relationships with suppliers.

Deliver marketing goals to maximise sales opportunities and play an active role in the management team to develop plans for future products, events and functions to secure additional revenue.

Manage loyalty, new product promotions/specials and proactively suggest marketing improvements using experience in the hospitality, catering & retail sector.

The Person:

  • Previous and recent experience in a management role within the hospitality and catering sector including the kitchens and front of house
  • Positive energy to manage the opportunities and challenges within the hospitality, catering & retail
  • Drive to deliver business objectives and passion to grow business in line with customer needs
  • Proven management experience in an open style culture and communication, democratic and engagement leadership, building effective teams and motivating staff
  • Highly customer focused with dynamism of going above and beyond
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Experience of analysing finances and data including sales turnover, margins, profits & products
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Well organised, strong prioritising skills, optimising resources and multi-tasking
  • A completer-finisher
  • Ability to function well and lead in a fast-paced, demanding and changeable environment
  • Ability to problem solve in a calm and methodical manner, and use own initiative
  • Excellent information management skills, use a variety of IT systems and skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Flexibility to work alternate weekend days and occasional evening shifts for external events
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate or above

We are a unique business in North Devon with vibrant delicatessens, cafés & community Post Offices in the two coastal villages of Instow and Appledore. Appledore also has a traditional grocery store and Instow has a beach hut & mobile food truck on Instow pier. We are renowned for showcasing the very best in local, artisan and homemade produce in our stores, as well as catering for markets and private or corporate events. The deli is our larder and products are made in our kitchens or sourced from the 150+ local, independent & artisan producers that we support. We offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere for customers, visitors and staff alike, and we strive to be the first to offer an exciting new product, concept or event/workshop to keep customers enticed!
