Job summary

CDM Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced General Foreman for a north east civil engineering contractor to oversee daily site operations across civils and infrastructure projects. You will lead on-site teams, drive productivity, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

The role offers a hands-on leadership position with clear progression routes into Site Management, working with operational and engineering teams to deliver complex schemes on time and to the required quality.

Qualifications

• Must have proven experience as a General Foreman, Working Foreman, or Ganger in civil engineering.
• Strong understanding of groundworks, drainage, utilities, structures, highways or public realm.
• Confident communicator who can lead teams effectively and maintain safety and quality standards.
• Solid knowledge of site safety, quality standards, and construction processes.
• CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, First Aid certifications; plant tickets are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Daily Site Coordination: Lead and organise site teams to ensure smooth, efficient progress.
• Supervision of Trades & Labour: Oversee operatives and subcontractors, ensuring work is completed to specification.
• Health & Safety Leadership: Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with CDM and company procedures.
• Quality Assurance: Monitor workmanship, complete inspections, and maintain accurate site records.
• Programme Support: Work closely with Site Managers and Engineers to maintain progress and address delays.
• Problem Solving: Identify issues early and implement practical solutions to keep works on track.
