Job summary

Abatec Recruitment is assisting a leading civil engineering contractor in recruiting an experienced General Foreman to support its expanding South West Water framework workload. The role spans water and wastewater civils across the South West with substantial secured work and long-term opportunities.

You will oversee day-to-day site operations, coordinate direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials, and ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to specifications.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as General Foreman in water/wastewater projects.
• Proven ability to manage direct labour and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of construction programmes, RAMS and safety requirements.
• Hands-on approach to drive productivity and maintain high standards.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing daily site operations across water and wastewater civils projects.
• Supervising and coordinating site teams, including Foremen, Gangers and operatives.
• Managing labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
• Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with programme and specifications.
• Briefing teams on RAMS, construction methods and daily activities.
• Monitoring productivity, quality and overall site performance.
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Liaising with Site Agents, Engineers and Project Managers to coordinate upcoming works.
• Identifying potential issues on site and implementing practical solutions.
• Ensuring accurate site records, daily diaries and progress reports are maintained.

Abatec is assisting a leading civil engineering contractor in the appointment of an experienced General Foreman to support their expanding workload across the South West Water framework.

With over £100 million worth of secured work guaranteed, and further projects in the pipeline, this is an excellent opportunity to join an established delivery team offering long-term job security and a consistent workload across the South West.

The projects cover a broad range of civil engineering activities, including wastewater schemes, trunk mains, water infrastructure and associated heavy civils works.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of site operations, coordinating direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.

About You

• Previous experience working as a General Foreman
• Strong background in water, wastewater, utilities, or heavy civil engineering projects.
• Confident managing direct labour and subcontractor teams.
• Good understanding of construction programmes, RAMS and health and safety requirements.
• A hands-on approach with the ability to drive productivity and maintain high standards.
• SMSTS, SSSTS and relevant construction qualifications would be advantageous.
