Eden Brown Synergy is recruiting a General Construction Technician for a temporary role in Merseyside. You will support construction workshops, assist teaching staff and students, and ensure workshop resources, tools and safety standards are maintained.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on construction experience and be capable of working across busy workshop environments, with DBS clearance required. A practical, organised approach and teamwork are essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure smooth day-to-day operation of General Construction workshops.
• Manage tools, equipment, materials and other resources.

• Assist with preparation of workshops and learning activities for lessons and assessments.
• Support demonstrations and activities in workshops as needed.
• Monitor safe use of tools and materials and promote good practices.
• Contribute to a safe working environment following college procedures.
• Assist with stock control and ordering of materials and consumables.
• Prepare and maintain practical work areas for teaching and learning.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Professional Trades to maintain an organized learning environment.

About the role

Eden Brown are looking for an enthusiastic, practical and highly organised General Construction Technician to join our Professional Trades team in a Further Education College in Merseyside.

As a General Construction Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the construction workshops, supporting both teaching staff and students in a safe, professional and positive learning environment.

You will bring your practical knowledge and experience of the construction industry to support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, while ensuring that workshops, tools, equipment and resources are maintained and managed effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the smooth running and day‑to‑day operation of the General Construction workshops and wider Professional Trades areas.


• Manage, organise and dispense tools, equipment, materials and other construction resources effectively.


• Provide practical support and supervision to Lecturers and students within the workshop environment.


• Ensure tools, equipment and workshop facilities are maintained in a safe, clean and serviceable condition.


• Support the preparation of workshops, practical activities and resources for lessons and assessments.


• Assist teaching staff with practical demonstrations and activities where appropriate.


• Monitor the safe use of tools, equipment and materials and promote good construction and workshop practices.


• Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with college health and safety procedures.


• Support the efficient stock control and ordering of construction materials and consumables.


• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of practical work areas, ensuring they are ready for teaching and learning activities.


• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Professional Trades areas to ensure an effective and well‑organised learning environment.

About you

You will have relevant industry experience and a sound practical knowledge of general construction, with the ability to work confidently across a busy workshop environment.

Experience across areas such as brickwork, plastering, groundwork, tiling, basic carpentry or other general construction disciplines would be advantageous.

You will be organised, reliable and approachable, with a strong commitment to supporting students and teaching staff.

The ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team is essential.

You will have a strong understanding of construction health and safety, including the safe use of tools, equipment and materials.

A DBS is also required for this role.

Experience of working within an education or training environment would be desirable, although we would welcome applications from experienced construction professionals looking to bring their practical skills and industry knowledge into further education.
