Job summary

St Johns Midsomer Norton Primary School is recruiting a General Catering Assistant to join the school catering team within the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership. The role covers sandwich preparation, simple hot items, dining area setup, till operations, and strict adherence to food safety standards.

The post is part-time (12.5 hours per week), term-time plus inset days, based at St Johns Midsomer Norton. Benefits include pension, sick pay, cycle-to-work, eye tests, and employee support

Qualifications

• Physical fitness for bending, lifting, and moving handling gear.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely (training provided).
• Strong teamwork and clear communication with staff and pupils.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development.
• Experience with cashless catering till systems and meal authorisations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing sandwiches, baguettes, salads, pre-mixes, and simple cooked items.
• Set up dining areas, manage queue flow, clear trays, wipe tables, and operate till systems for cashless catering and meal authorisations.
• Maintain high standards of food safety by washing crockery, utensils, and machinery, and by daily temperature checks.
• Load pre-prepared meals into the school catering vehicle and deliver them to local schools when required.
