Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to lead development, validation, and reliability testing of F1 transmission systems within a factory environment.

You will drive structured test programs, analyze high-resolution data, and work with design and simulation teams to improve durability, efficiency, and performance under extreme conditions. This factory-based role emphasizes hands-on rig work and rigorous validation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, a related discipline or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing with motorsport, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of gear systems, tribology, lubrication, fatigue, wear mechanisms, and high-speed loading.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute rigorous gearbox test programs, including full dyno testing, sub-system validation, endurance and accelerated life testing.
• Define test procedures, instrumentation requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Operate and support advanced test rigs simulating real-world race duty cycles.
• Analyze high-resolution test data for gear durability, fatigue life, and thermal performance.
• Correlate test data with simulations and track data; produce engineering reports with recommendations.
• Lead root cause analysis of gearbox failures and coordinate corrective actions.
