Purpose

The Principal Examiner ensures that the standards of externally assessed units/modules/components are maintained and consistent with the specifications and assessment criteria. They oversee examiner standardisation.

Core Services and Expectations

Represent Pearson professionally, maintain integrity, respect confidentiality, attend relevant meetings and training, adhere to deadlines, promote diversity and inclusion, have suitable IT equipment, communicate timely, and report concerns about malpractice or safeguarding issues.

Role Specific Services and Expectations

Deliver contracted units/modules/components on time, update mark schemes, lead standardisation meetings, select and mark items, prepare materials, support examiners and supervisors, monitor marking progress, review responses, escalate quality issues, support in awarding activities, and complete review processes.

Skills and Competencies

Experience in quality assurance and assessment, moderation or marking, training provision, knowledge of specifications, IT proficiency, leadership in qualifications delivery, regulatory compliance, and report writing.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications depend on the qualification delivered; typically a degree and a UK-recognized teaching qualification. Proof may be requested upon appointment.
