About Ignite Hubs

Ignite Hubs is an education charity for children and young people aged 7 to 18 years old. Our mission is to ignite the potential of young minds by widening their horizons and providing them with the skills, connections and experiences to access career-related learning opportunities and prepare them for the future workforce. We currently teach coding and STEM.

We aim to provide the best learning environment for children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities. We place a special emphasis on engaging underrepresented groups, including girls, children with special educational needs, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. By doing so, we actively work towards narrowing the representation gap in the technology and STEM sectors.

We teach over 200 students each week and have positively impacted more than 1,000 children and young people since we started. Our educational offerings include four weekly virtual classes and five weekly in-person classes during term time at various libraries throughout Southwark, SE London.

Our long-term ambition is to offer nationwide classes, workshops and events to children and young people on a wide variety of subjects under our five educational Hubs: Code, STEM, Innovation & Enterprise, Creativity and Health & Wellbeing.

Role & Responsibilities

Our remote classes run from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesdays during term-time. Our terms are 8 weeks long, with a break of at least two weeks in the middle, longer for Easter and Summer holidays. You are required to be online 5-10 minutes before the class starts to get ready and stay on for 5-10 minutes after if needed.

There may also be additional hours available for contributing to curriculum development and content creation for our Online Learning Platform, which we are currently designing and building.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging classes remotely.
  • Develop lesson plans and teaching materials to support students’ learning.
  • Monitor students’ progress, providing feedback and support as needed.
  • Support the development of class resources and content.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Possibility of working additional hours by supporting other classes, developing resources, projects, and content for our Online Learning Platform.

What we are looking for

  • Ability to engage with students in a remote learning environment.
  • Experience working with children and/or young people in a formal or informal community setting (desirable).
  • Self-motivated, organised and proactive.

Other Information:

  • We will carry out an Enhanced DBS check and ask for two references.
  • Join a fast-growing organisation with over 30 volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Opportunity to nurture the next generation of digital whizzes and creatives.

This position is ideal for individuals passionate about technology and education and looking for a fulfilling role that offers flexibility and purpose.
