Job summary

The Gateway Academy in Tilbury is seeking a dedicated Teacher of English to join our English Faculty. You will deliver engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, nurturing a love of reading and writing and working with a team passionate about excellence.

Summer 2026 produced the strongest outcomes in the Academy's history. English at grade 4+ rose nine points to 85% — our strongest headline measure and fourteen points above the national average. English at grade 5+ 69% and at grade 7+ 28%.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Teacher of English at The Gateway Academy, you will:

1. Deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, in English Language and English Literature.
2. Foster curiosity, confidence and a genuine love of reading, writing and spoken language.
3. Assess and monitor students' progress, providing feedback that inspires improvement and confidence.
4. Work collaboratively with a dedicated team of subject specialists who are passionate about achieving excellence.
5. Contribute to the ongoing development of the English curriculum, to whole‑school literacy and to enrichment opportunities.
