Job summary

Studio Nicholson is seeking a Garment Technologist to lead technical standards for Menswear and Womenswear RTW. You will bridge design and production, ensuring fit, quality, and construction across the brand.

You will drive technical excellence, optimise the critical path, and collaborate with suppliers and internal teams. The role is 4 days per week at our London office, with a focus on sustainable materials and innovative construction.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Fashion Technology, Garment Construction, or related field.
  • 5+ years of practical industry garment technology experience.
  • Proficiency in Gerber and MS Office; knowledge of Zedonk is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Measuring and checking samples, ensuring consistency in grading and construction across the brand.
  • Fit & Construction Excellence: Support live model fittings and provide precise, actionable feedback to teams and suppliers.
  • Quality & Risk Management: Perform risk assessments on new designs and ensure testing protocols meet global safety standards.
  • Critical Path & PLM Oversight: Own CP processes, keep data accurate, and coordinate with teams to avoid delays.
  • Supplier Relations: Manage factory technical teams, conduct audits and benchmark quality.
  • Process Improvement: Research sustainable materials and innovative construction methods to improve fit and performance.
  • Standardisation: Develop and implement fit standards and language across the brand.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Customer Care to analyse returns and drive technical improvements.

Job description

Garment Technologist (MW & WW)
Job Overview

As Garment Technologist, you will be a technical leader within the brand, overseeing the product standards for both Menswear and Womenswear departments. You will bridge the gap between creative design and commercial reality, ensuring that every garment in our RTW range meets our exacting standards for fit, quality, and construction.

You will be responsible for driving technical excellence, collaboration cross-functionally, and optimising the critical path to ensure the successful delivery of our global collections.

This role will be for 4 days pw at our London Office.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Technical Leadership: Measuring and checking of all samples (Proto, Fit, PPS, and Pre-Ship), ensuring consistency in grading and construction across the entire brand.

  • Fit & Construction Excellence: Support fit sessions on live models. Provide technical solutions to fit issues and communicate precise, actionable feedback to internal team and external suppliers.

  • Quality & Risk Management: Perform risk assessments on new designs. Work with RM Developer to implement fabric and garment testing protocols, ensuring all products comply with global safety standards and legal disclaims.

  • Critical Path & PLM Oversight: Take ownership of the relevant CP processes. Ensure all data is accurate and up-to-date, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks and coordinating with internal teams to mitigate delays.

  • Supplier Relations: Manage existing relationships with factory technical teams. Conduct technical audits and quality benchmarking to ensure suppliers can comply with the brand’s evolving quality expectations.

  • Process Improvement: Drive innovation through technical research into new sustainable materials, innovative construction methods, and market-leading fit technologies.

  • Standardisation: Collaborate on the continued development and implementation of fit standards and language for the brand.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration partner closely with Customer Care to analyse returns data, using feedback to implement technical improvements and reduce return rates.

Requirements
  • Education: A degree in Fashion Technology, Garment Construction, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of practical industry experience in garment technology.

  • Technical Skills: Good understanding of pattern cutting, grading, and textile science. Proficiency in Gerber, Microsoft Office and Zedonk is a plus

  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to negotiate and guide internal teams and external manufacturers.

  • Organisation: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage high-volume workloads across multiple product categories and timelines simultaneously.

  • Detail-Oriented: An uncompromising eye for detail
