Lancaster City Council is seeking a Gardener / Hard Landscaper to maintain Morecambe’s parks, streets and community spaces to the highest standards. You’ll lead a team, operate power tools and fleet vehicles, and support with events while ensuring health and safety in all tasks.
Applicants should have a Level 2 qualification in horticulture (or equivalent) and a full driving licence with trailer entitlement; capable of working independently or with others in a flexible, outdoor role.
Join us as Gardener / Hard Landscaper and play a vital role in keeping Lancaster’s open spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. As a key part of our grounds maintenance team, you’ll help maintain parks, streets, and community areas to the highest standards, supporting the council’s commitment to a vibrant and attractive district.
You’ll support in leading a dedicated team in delivering essential horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, litter and graffiti removal, landscaping, and playground installation. Operating fleet vehicles and use a variety of power tools, you'll maintain parks, streets, beaches, and playgrounds to the highest standard. and ensure public spaces remain safe and inviting. Your role also involves supervising agency staff, assisting with event setups, and working closely with community volunteers, and ensuring health and safety standards are met.
You hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience in horticulture and have a full driving licence with trailer entitlement. You’re confident working both independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach. Local Government Reorganisation
The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.
If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancaster City Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.
