Job Description for Gardener/Estate Worker

Gardener/estate worker wanted (full time) at St Paul’s Walden Bury, a Grade I listed garden near Hitchin covering 50 acres. Experienced or keen learner, but must be enthusiastic about gardening and preserving historic landscapes.

Location: St Paul’s Walden Bury, Hitchin, Herts. SG48BP

Responsibilities

• Main Tasks: Horticultural tasks through the seasons
• Shrub, herbaceous and bulb establishment
• Hedge cutting, mowing, car/tractor driving and grounds maintenance
• Forestry, drainage and indoor decorating in winter months
• Building and machinery maintenance and repair work

Requirements

• Essential: Driving licence; experience in gardening and conservation; ability to use hand tools, mechanised tools.
• Desirable: Forklift / chainsaw certificates; tractor driving experience; horticultural training.

Terms and Conditions

• Remuneration: £27,300 – dependent on experience
• Hours of Work: 39 hours per week. The normal hours of work will be from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm with one hour for lunch, Monday to Thursday and from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm on Friday.
