Gardener

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire

Together with our network of partners, we provide free support, information, advice, financial assistance, and services for horticulturalists and their loved ones experiencing illness, disability, bereavement, family breakdown, and financial difficulties.

Position: Full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours per week

The Role

As a Gardener, you will be responsible for the care, cultivation, and maintenance of York Gate Garden. This includes:

1. Performing a range of gardening tasks including planting, pruning, and general garden maintenance.
2. Collaborating with the Garden Manager on garden improvements and replanting projects.
3. Ensuring ornamental plants are kept in excellent condition, assisting with topiary work, and taking on propagation duties.
4. Supporting the maintenance and general running of the nursery and plant sales area.
5. Supervising and training volunteers in gardening tasks.
6. Interacting with visitors and leading tours during the garden opening.
7. Providing cover for other gardening staff and deputizing for the Senior Gardener when needed.
8. Complying with health and safety policies at all times.

About You

To be considered as a Gardener, you will need:

1. Experience working in a garden open to the public.
2. Exceptional topiary skills.
3. Proficiency with hedge cutters, strimmers, chainsaws, ride-on mowers, and leaf blowers.
4. Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
5. A passion for sharing plant knowledge with others.
6. A Level 3 RHS qualification or equivalent experience.
