Job description

The Vacancy

Our Governance, Administration and Projects (GAP) team sits at the heart of our Actuarial Public Business Unit, working closely with Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds and other public sector clients to help them run efficiently, meet regulatory requirements and deliver better outcomes for members.

They combine technical pensions knowledge with practical delivery, supporting clients on everything from governance reviews and compliance to data improvement, administration transformation and large-scale projects. Their work is varied and impactful, often involving collaboration across actuarial, administration and technology teams to solve complex challenges and drive meaningful change in the public sector pensions landscape.

We have an exciting opportunity for an administrator to join our GAP team. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working with data, processes and problem-solving, and who is looking to develop their skills within a professional and supportive environment. You'll have the opportunity to build specialist knowledge of the LGPS while working with colleagues across our Actuarial Public business unit to deliver excellent service to our clients.

What will your role look like?

As an administrator, you'll work as a key part of our GAP team, collaborating with consultants and specialists across the business to deliver first-class administration support to clients, who are predominantly local authorities administering the LGPS.

You'll develop your technical knowledge, gain experience of pension administration processes and play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality client work. This is a varied role, offering the opportunity to learn new skills and build expertise within a specialist area of pensions consulting.

Though this is a varied role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • learning about the different systems we use and building your confidence in working with them, including LGPS administration systems.

  • carrying out standard LGPS calculations using administration systems, including deferred benefit and benefit aggregation calculations.

  • producing training materials, process notes and presentations for both internal and external audiences.

  • proactively managing your workload and supporting the delivery of client work within agreed timescales.

  • producing and maintaining process documentation for standard LGPS calculations and procedures.

  • supporting colleagues with administration activities and project work across the wider team.

  • developing your understanding of LGPS legislation, processes and best practice.

  • adhering to the firm's mandatory policies, including Information Security standards.

If you enjoy and have experience of the following, we think you'll love this opportunity

  • relevant experience within an administrative, financial services or customer-focused environment.

  • being self-motivated and using your initiative to get things done.

  • working accurately and paying close attention to detail.

  • using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • analysing information and solving problems in a logical and structured way.

  • planning, prioritising and managing your workload effectively.

  • working collaboratively and building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • communicating clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.

  • learning new systems, processes and technical information.

  • providing excellent service and understanding the needs of clients and stakeholders.

  • keeping up to date with developments in the services we provide and the wider pensions industry.

  • working as part of a team and contributing positively to shared goals.

An understanding of the Local Government Pension Scheme would be beneficial, but this is not essential as full training and support will be provided. We would also encourage applications from candidates who may not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent in most areas and would be able to develop the additional skills and experience required with our support. This role would suit someone looking to build a long-term career within pensions consulting, administration or client services.

In Addition To a Competitive Salary, We Offer

  • a flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.

  • a collaborative and supportive work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.

  • a commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.

  • regular social activities, in addition to three days' paid volunteering leave each year and a day's leave to celebrate your birthday.

  • on-site mental health and wellbeing support.
