Job summary

Code Wizards Group is seeking an Engineering Manager in Theale to combine technical and people leadership. You will lead engineers, guide architectural decisions and ensure high-quality delivery across game tech projects.

You will mentor teams, engage with customers, and support pre-sales while working with Unreal Engine, Unity, C++, and cloud services. Hybrid working arrangements are available with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Significant commercial software engineering experience.
• Previous experience leading or managing engineering teams.
• Strong experience developing games or game-related technology.
• Excellent knowledge of C++ and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with Unreal Engine and Unity.
• Experience with Go or C#.
• Experience building scalable multiplayer systems, online services or backend platforms.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A passion for mentoring others and building high-performing engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of software engineers across multiple projects.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews and career development conversations.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, helping them develop technically and professionally.
• Provide technical direction across game technology and backend projects.
• Guide architecture, design decisions and scalable solutions.
• Support teams with Unreal Engine, Unity, C++, Go and modern game tech.
• Collaborate with Product, Delivery and Technical Leadership for project success.
• Identify technical risks early and mitigate them.
• Troubleshoot complex technical challenges across development, deployment and LiveOps.
