Job Summary

Thomas Dane Gallery is seeking a Gallery Assistant, Press and Communications, to join the team at its London Gallery. This is a wide-ranging role working closely with the full Gallery team, with a focus on Press and Communications.

Job Description
Press:
  • Monitor press coverage, primarily through Vuelio platform, identifying all relevant coverage, logging articles, mounting press clippings and circulating weekly updates to gallery staff.
  • Create press highlights packs for artists and specific projects.
  • Compile images for press, including sourcing images, seeking approvals, and drafting caption and credit documents.
  • Proofreading and fact‑checking press releases, articles, and other press materials.
  • Attend exhibition meetings and meetings with external PR agencies.
Communications:
  • Support the Press and Communications Manager in updating the Communications Planner, planning marketing campaigns and monitoring subscriber numbers.
  • Create email marketing campaigns and social media posts to promote the TDG programme, external exhibitions, and other gallery and artist activities.
General Gallery Assistance:
  • Answer the door buzzer, greeting gallery visitors, providing information or ensuring assistance is provided as required.
  • Answer the telephone and transfer calls to relevant staff, fielding queries if necessary.
  • Collect visitor data, scan visitor books, and compile reports at the end of each show.
Administration:
  • Manage general email inquiries to the info@thomasdanegallery.com.
  • Keep Artlogic contact entries up to date.
  • Assist the team with ad‑hoc travel and restaurant bookings.
  • Order general office supplies.
  • Maintain a high level of organisation around the front desk and gallery.
Post and Couriers:
  • Organise shipping for gifts, books, and documents.
  • Arrange local couriers and post items using Royal Mail Drop & Go forms.
Miscellaneous:

At Thomas Dane Gallery there is an understanding and expectation that all team members will work together to undertake and share additional tasks, in line with their responsibility level, to enable the Gallery to meet deadlines, prepare and deliver exhibitions and events and meet deadlines.

Job Requirements

This is an entry level position, although a keen interest in visual art, galleries and museums is essential. The ideal candidate would be looking to begin a career in cultural communications and to gain professional experience working with the arts press, social media and marketing. You will have excellent written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, a strong visual sense and the ability to prioritise a busy workload. This role will be based at the front desk and will include gallery assistant duties.

Job Responsibilities

This is a wide-ranging role working closely with the full Gallery team, with a focus on Press and Communications, monitoring coverage of gallery artists and exhibitions, and supporting in the delivery of communications around the gallery programme.

The Gallery Assistant, Press and Communications sits at the front desk and is the first point of contact for visitors to the gallery. Their main role is to support the Press and Communications Manager. The post is line managed by the Press and Communications Manager but front desk and related duties will be delegated by the Gallery Assistant.
