Job summary

Research England, part of UKRI, seeks a Funding Analyst to design, deliver and operate analytical tools supporting the allocation of over £2 billion in funding. You will work in a fast‑paced team, develop funding models, and ensure data quality while delivering dashboards for senior leaders.

The role requires experience in R, analytical product development, QA, and strong collaboration skills. This fixed-term contract (6 months) offers flexible hours with 0.8 FTE minimum and a closing date of 16

Qualifications

  • Qualifications: An RQF level 3 qualification (equivalent to A-level) in a numerate subject, or relevant experience.
  • Analytical expertise: Apply analytical methodologies to develop new data analysis approaches.
  • Critical evaluation: Review data and methods to identify issues and improvements.
  • Programming and data handling: Experience coding in R to manipulate datasets.
  • Quality assurance and coding standards: Check accuracy and maintainable code and outputs.
  • Collaboration and project management: Work with colleagues on development of work areas and projects.
  • Communication and influence: Explain data and analysis clearly to non-specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Support algorithm-driven allocation of research funds to HE providers.
  • Develop knowledge of sector data and funding models used by Research England.
  • Assist with QA checks and escalation of QA approvals as needed.
  • Collaborate on sector benchmarking and data visualisation to provide insights.
  • Develop and maintain analytical tools to support funding operations and teams.
