Job summary

The University of East London, through ISEY, invites applications for a fully funded PhD position at Stratford Campus, London. The project investigates how shared parent-child reading shapes early learning and neural mechanisms.

Funding covers tuition and a stipend (£22,780 p.a for full-time; part-time pro-rated). The role is based at ISEY with some remote work; start January 2027; closing date 20 November 2026.

Qualifications

• First or upper second-class undergraduate honours degree; Masters in a relevant field preferred.
• Experience working with children is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with programming and data analysis tools; PhD involves advanced quantitative analysis.
• Interested in auditory or visual attention, speech and language processing, arousal, and EEG.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experiments on shared reading between caregivers and children to study learning and attention.
• Analyze multi-stream data including EEG and behavioural measures.
• Collaborate with a team of researchers and contribute to dissemination of findings.
• Prepare articles and materials for educator-facing publications and events.
