Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths and English to learners aged 11-19 in Bulwell, Nottingham. This full-time, term-time role offers a competitive daily rate and a temp-to-perm pathway, with PAYE payments.

You will tailor lessons to learners with barriers to mainstream education, including SEND and SEMH, while maintaining records and collaborating with support staff to drive progress toward EHCP targets.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English.
• Qualified teaching certificate (PTLLS/AET/Cert Ed/PGCE) desirable.
• Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
• Empathy for vulnerable learners and safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, learner-focused Functional Skills Maths and English lessons (Entry Level to Level 2).
• Differentiate content to meet a range of learning styles and abilities.
• Support learners with additional needs, helping build confidence and motivation.
• Work towards individual EHCP and academic progress targets.
• Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress, and achievement.
• Collaborate with support staff, tutors, and pastoral teams to ensure learner success.

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist education provider in Carrington, Nottingham, to recruit a Functional Skills Tutor. You'll be delivering Maths and English lessons to learners aged 11-19 who may face barriers to mainstream education, including those with SEND, SEMH, or low prior attainment.

Your Responsibilities:

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Previous experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and/or English
• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, AET, Cert Ed, PGCE) - desirable
• Strong behaviour management and communication skills
• A compassionate and flexible approach to supporting vulnerable or disengaged learners
• A good understanding of safeguarding and SEND best practice
