Job summary

Get Further is seeking experienced Functional Skills tutors to deliver high-quality English and maths tuition to Level 2 learners in small groups. You will support attendance, progression and learner confidence while collaborating with coordinators and partner organisations.

The role combines hands-on tutoring with programme leadership, mentoring other tutors and contributing to quality assurance across the programme.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication, organisational and IT skills are essential.
  • QTS or Level 3+ teaching qualifications are required, with evidence of registration/eligibility.
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
  • A 2:1 degree or above is required; strong 2:2 considered for some candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality tutoring in small groups (up to three learners).
  • Support learner engagement, attendance and achievement across sessions.
  • Coordinate with Programme Coordinators and external partners.
  • Contribute to tutor development and share best practices within the team.

As a national education charity, we support young people and adults from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve the gateway qualifications they need to succeed in education, work and life. We are now seeking passionate and experienced Functional Skills Programme Senior Tutors to support young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine high-quality tutoring with programme leadership, helping learners build confidence, improve attendance and achieve meaningful outcomes.

About the Role

As a Functional Skills Programme Senior Tutor, you will deliver engaging small-group English and/or maths tuition to learners preparing for Level 2 Functional Skills Qualifications.

Alongside teaching, you will play a key role in supporting learner engagement, attendance and achievement, working closely with Programme Coordinators, partner organisations and the wider tutoring team. You will also act as a role model for high-quality practice and contribute to the development of other tutors across the programme.

70% of your role will be delivering tuition

30% will focus on learner support, programme coordination and tutor quality assurance

What You'll Be Doing
Delivering High-quality Tuition
  • Deliver exemplary tutoring sessions (small group, up to three learners), demonstrating an excellent understanding of the curriculum, the subject(s) and the resources.
  • Adapt sessions to meet individual learner needs.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage attendance, confidence and progress.
  • Prepare thoroughly for sessions.
  • Demonstrate expertise and professionalism as a standard for other tutors, setting a benchmark as a role model within the team.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude to professional development, by engaging with and attending our Tutor Academy seminars and workshops.
  • Complete and maintain high-quality registers for sessions, to ensure attendance and learner progress is recorded accurately and is up to date.
  • Create and share high-quality video reflections of your tutoring to allow for feedback and development from Get Further staff.
Supporting Learner Success and Tutor Development
  • Work closely with learners to overcome barriers to engagement.
  • Support attendance and scheduling of sessions and assist with exam logistics where required.
  • Help learners prepare for mock exams and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and progress records.
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders, where required, to support effective delivery logistics and ensure learners receive the appropriate support.
  • Support tutor development through drops-ins, feedback, and sharing best practice
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Level 3 or above Teach qualifications including; PTLLS Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, Award in Education and Training (AET), CET / CETLS / CTLLS - Certificate in Education and Training, DTLLS - Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
  • A-level (or equivalent) at Grade B or above in a relevant subject.
  • A 2:1 degree or above (strong 2:2 applicants will be considered).
  • At least three months' experience teaching or tutoring.
  • Strong communication, organisational and IT skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly to delivery locations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
  • Experience working with NEET learners.
  • Knowledge of the Further Education sector.
  • Interest in, or experience of, working within the charity sector.
