Job summary

University Hospitals Sussex invites applications for a fully funded two-year research fellowship in cardiology, based in the CIRU research unit. The MD project focuses on procedural steps and long-term outcomes of contemporary TAVI, with involvement in NIHR multi-centre trials and sub-PI roles.

The post includes postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, audits, and opportunities to develop a research portfolio.

Qualifications

• Basic medical degree is required.
• Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification.
• Advanced Life Support certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent.
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• At least 3 years' postgraduate medical training.
• Experience in general cardiology with exposure to coronary and/or structural heart intervention.

Responsibilities

• Develop the MD project hypothesis and experimental design, and write and submit ethics applications.
• Register for and complete a medical doctorate, submitting the research as a thesis.
• Act as sub-PI on other projects and help deliver them.
• Assist with delivery of the research portfolio, including NIHR multi-centre cardiology trials.
• Liaise with collaborators and keep detailed records of experimental work.
• Present research at local and international meetings; write up for publication.
