Job summary

Oscar Technology in Bristol is seeking an experienced Full Stack Java / J2EE Developer to join our hybrid team. You will hit the ground running across front-end and back-end development from day one.

This role requires minimum 4 years of commercial Java/J2EE experience, strong RESTful services, and collaboration across the full software lifecycle, including deployments, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of commercial Java/J2EE development experience.
• Strong knowledge of J2EE, RESTful Web Services and Struts framework.
• Experience with unit, integration, system and regression testing.
• Proficiency with Git, SVN and Eclipse.
• Curiosity about modern development practices and new technology.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Java/J2EE applications across the full stack.
• Work on multiple development projects and participate in design discussions.
• Contribute to solution design, peer reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• Support integrations, APIs, cloud platforms, and system connectivity.
• Troubleshoot production issues and deliver lasting fixes.
• Create documentation for handover and operations.
• Support build, deployment, release, and continuous improvement processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to turn requirements into practical solutions.

This isn't a graduate or entry-level role - we need someone who can hit the ground running across both front-end and back-end development from day one.

What we're looking for

• Minimum 4 years' commercial experience in Java / J2EE development, front-end and back-end
• Strong knowledge of J2EE, RESTful Web Services, and frameworks such as Struts
• Solid understanding of unit, integration, system, and regression testing
• Confidence with Git, SVN, and Eclipse
• A practical, collaborative approach to problem-solving
• Genuine curiosity about modern development practices and new technology

Nice to have:

• Docker or Kubernetes
• UNIX/Linux experience
• Build, configuration, and release management
• APIs and system integration experience
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Additional languages such as C++, Python, Perl, or JavaScript
