Full Stack Engineer (Team Lead)

Type: 4-month fixed-term contract (expected to transition into permanent)

Location: Remote-first approach - occasional travel to London once or twice per month (candidates must be based in the UK)

This is a great opportunity for a Full Stack Engineer to join on an initial 4-month fixed-term contract, with the expectation to extend into a permanent role, leading a team focused on innovation.

Role Overview:

The Full Stack Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining their platform. This position requires a highly skilled developer with expertise in front-end and back-end technologies, experience in scalable architecture, and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of developers, ensuring high-quality code, best practices, and adherence to agile methodologies.
  2. Full-Stack Development: Design, develop, and maintain platform features using React (frontend), Node.js (backend), Directus (CMS), PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and APIs.
  3. Matrix/Synapse Integration: Develop and maintain real-time messaging and collaboration features using Matrix/Synapse for decentralized communication.
  4. Cloud & DevOps: Manage deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
  5. Database & API Management: Design efficient PostgreSQL and MongoDB schemas and develop secure RESTful/GraphQL APIs for seamless data integration.
  6. Performance Optimization.
  7. Code Review & Quality Assurance.
  8. Security Best Practices.
Skills and Experience:
  1. Experience with Directus or other headless CMS solutions.
  2. Strong understanding of RESTful & GraphQL APIs.
  3. Proven experience leading a development team and mentoring junior engineers.
  4. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and DevOps practices.
  5. Agile development experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and containerization (Docker).
  6. Arabic language skills to support the platform’s bilingual capabilities.
  7. Experience with AI/ML integrations or recommendation systems.
  8. Expertise in Matrix/Synapse integration for real-time messaging and communication.
  9. Knowledge of WebSockets, real-time messaging, and event-driven architectures.
  10. Background in platform monetization and payment integration.
  11. Strong familiarity with access control, authentication (OAuth, JWT), and data privacy regulations.
