Job summary

InterSTEM Cambridge is seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineer to own a production engineering project. The role is hybrid, requiring regular on-site work in Cambridge and collaboration with product and leadership on technical decisions.

You’ll design and implement multi-role RBAC/permissions within an existing platform and drive broader improvements across the application. Stack includes TypeScript, Node.js/Express, Next.js/React, and GitHub Actions.

Qualifications

• Commercial TypeScript experience across frontend and backend.
• Experience with React and Next.js building interfaces and workflows.
• PostgreSQL relational database knowledge.
• Experience implementing RBAC, permissions or complex access-control systems.
• Experience owning database schemas, migrations and backend/API changes.
• Experience building full-stack product features end-to-end.
• Ability to work hybrid from Cambridge.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement role-based access control across an existing application.
• Define roles, permissions and access rules across different user types.
• Make associated database/schema changes and migrations.
• Implement secure API and frontend permission handling.
• Build and own product features and user workflows end-to-end.
• Improve application architecture, reliability, security and test coverage.
• Work directly with product and leadership on technical decisions and trade-offs.
• Integrate new functionality into an existing production codebase.
• Take ownership of changes from database and backend through to frontend and production.
