Job description

At Bitfount our goal is to make the world’s intractable data interactable.

We're building a missing piece of global infrastructure: a secure network to enable organisations to send algorithms to data. This means they can share the benefits of their data with each other, without having to go through the painful and risky process of moving it around, without compromising its privacy, and without even needing to expose any raw data.

Right now, we’re focused on using our platform to help solve the problem of clinical trial recruitment in the Healthcare space. We’re enabling privacy-preserving collaboration between healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies, which will remove a major friction point in the process, and help ensure critical medicines make it through trials and into the hands of those who need them much sooner.

The role

Bitfount is looking for a motivated, experienced Full Stack Engineer to join our Engineering team and contribute to the development of user-facing features in our product. We're tackling lots of really interesting problems at the intersection of data visualisation, AI/ML/Analytics workflows, integrations, enterprise functionality (e.g. for healthcare), and general UX aspects - all across both web and desktop apps. You'll be part of a strong cross-functional team (product, design, engineering).

You should be comfortable with high quality software practices (including code-reviews, testing practices, and software design), happy to work in a diverse team, be willing to participate in our team-led discussions, and generally be interested in making sure artificial intelligence and data are used to make the world a better place.

Your work will include
  • Contributing to the development of our applications: a React and Tauri desktop application and a React and Next.js web application

  • Working closely with product and design to help build the best user experience possible

  • Helping shape engineering standards, practices and culture at Bitfount through both coding and high quality, effective communication

️What we offer
  • Compensation package

    • Salary based on experience and market rate

    • Share options

  • Flexible work and tools

    • Hybrid Working policy - 1 day in our lovely Shoreditch office - Fora Montacute Yards

    • A personal budget for any equipment you need to do your job

  • Holidays and family time

    • 25 days holiday a year, plus bank holidays - please use them all!

    • Enhanced paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave

  • Learning and development

    • Personal learning budget to use on books, courses, conferences and more

  • Health & Wellbeing

    • Private Medical Insurance including optical, dental and mental health.

    • Cycle to work scheme

  • Community

    • Regular (optional) team and company events in and out of the office

    • Lunch on Bitfount once a week in the office

Bitfount is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, veteran, neurodiversity status or disability status.

Please note: all successful applicants will be subject to a DBS reference check in line with industry norms.

You may be fit for this role if you

Must haves:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience designing and building applications at a product-centric software company

  • 3+ years experience writing React applications, ideally using Typescript

  • Experience with some UI testing tools and frameworks, using build, test, and deployment tools in production environments

  • Solid knowledge of web applications system design, including authentication and authorization technologies, caching and API design

  • A product mindset and an interest in building great user experiences

  • Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between design, product, and engineering

  • Are an exceptional contributor who creates and executes their own work

  • Are highly curious; not satisfied with getting something to work, you want to understand why it works and how to make it high quality

Nice to haves:

  • Working experience with Figma and Material UI

  • Experience with Storybook, Playwright, react-testing-library

  • Working knowledge of SQL or experience with ORM frameworks

  • Familiarity with service deployment processes and infrastructure

  • Development experience with Rust or a desire to learn this on the job

The interview process:

  • Getting to know you: 30 minute chat with our People and Operations manager to talk about your experience and the role.

  • Technical Screen: Take Home task relevant to the role

  • Technical call: A call with an engineer to discuss the take home task with live coding

  • Leadership interview - 60 minute chat with our Head of Engineering about your prior accomplishments and the challenges you’ve faced as an engineer.
