About the Role
The Opportunity Full Stack Developer | React, TypeScript, Python & FastAPI
- Location: Glasgow (2 days per week onsite)
- Contract Length: Initial 6 months with extension potential
This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll own features end-to-end, from requirements gathering and design through to deployment and production support.
You'll be working on a modern stack consisting of:
- React & TypeScript
- Python & FastAPI
- Docker
- AI and speech-to-text integrations
Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
- Building new features across React frontends and FastAPI backend services.
- Designing and maintaining PostgreSQL schemas, migrations and queries.
- Working with a large clinical data model and healthcare-related datasets.
- Developing background processing pipelines for transcription, data extraction and AI-assisted workflows.
- Integrating LLM and speech-to-text services into production applications.
- Implementing secure authentication, authorisation and audit controls.
- Writing automated tests and contributing to a quality-focused engineering culture.
- Deploying and supporting applications on Google Cloud and containerised on-premise environments.
- Participating in code reviews and helping shape engineering standards across the platform.
- Working closely with the CTO and wider engineering team on architecture and product decisions.
Required Skills
We're looking for engineers with commercial experience in:
- Python and FastAPI, including API development and data validation.
- React and TypeScript in production environments.
- PostgreSQL, including relational modelling, schema design and database migrations.
- Automated testing using tools such as Pytest, Jest, Playwright or Cypress.
- Docker and at least one major cloud platform (GCP preferred).
- CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- OAuth2, OIDC and JWT-based authentication.
- Working with confidential or regulated data.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver independently within a collaborative team.
Preferred Skills
Any of the following would be highly beneficial:
- Healthcare systems or healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7).
- NHS, healthcare, public sector, insurance or other regulated domains.
- Speech-to-text or transcription platforms.
- AI and LLM integrations.
- Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
- Event-driven systems and asynchronous processing.
- Firebase migrations.
- Accessibility standards (WCAG).
- AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
