Job summary

Motherwell & District Women's Aid is seeking a Women’s Support Worker to provide confidential emotional and practical support to women experiencing or recovering from domestic abuse. You will carry out risk assessments, safety planning, MARAC referrals, information provision, housing support, and advocacy with partner agencies.

The role is based at the MDWA Office in Motherwell and in refuge settings, with 35 hours weekly in a permanent post subject to funding.

Qualifications

• SVQ 3 Health and Social Care qualification or willingness to work towards the qualification.
• Knowledge of domestic abuse and gender-based violence.
• Knowledge of Adult Support and Protection.
• Knowledge of Child Protection.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
• Ability to support women with varying and complex needs.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Good IT skills and data handling ability.
• Ability to prioritise, work on own initiative and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide confidential emotional and practical support to women and accompanying children to ensure safety.
• Conduct risk assessments and prioritise high-risk cases for safety planning and MARAC referrals.
• Offer information and guidance to access welfare rights, housing options, and legal procedures.
• Advise and signpost to relevant services and advocate with agencies when needed.
• Assist with refuge applications, housing support, and post-housing follow-up.
• Support with budgeting, benefits, and financial coercion issues related to domestic abuse.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries; ensure safety within MDWA premises.
• Deliver domestic abuse awareness sessions and contribute to data collection and reporting.
