Role: Frontline Engineer Lead
Location: Cheltenham
Salary: Competitive salary and package dependent on experience + shift work

Team Environment

The secure cloud infrastructure support team in Cheltenham uses cutting-edge cloud technologies to support Critical National Infrastructure in an internet-disconnected environment. You will support day-to-day operations and provide first-level infrastructure and platform engineering support to a secure government client.

Shift and Travel

This team operates a 24/7/365 rota, with shift premiums for unsociable hours. The role may require regular travel to sites near London during the first 6-12 months for training and transition.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide frontline support to secure cloud users to troubleshoot and resolve critical technical issues.
  2. Lead support engineers during shifts, coordinate critical escalations with third parties and users.
  3. Manage tickets tracking user queries and support requests, ensuring effective diagnosis and resolution.
  4. Develop product knowledge in air-gapped cloud technology to assist users.
  5. Support internal reviews for continuous improvement and reducing toil.
  6. Follow runbooks and procedures for incident management, especially for high-priority incidents involving UK critical workloads.
  7. Mentor junior engineers and support team skills growth.
Qualifications

The following skills and experience are essential:

  1. Significant experience with computer systems and networks, especially Linux.
  2. Experience leading or overseeing teams.
  3. Experience with IaC tools like Terraform.
  4. Experience with Kubernetes, troubleshooting container platforms.
  5. Ability to troubleshoot and identify bugs or failures.
  6. Willingness to learn deep skills in air-gapped cloud architecture.
  7. Experience in production support or operations roles.
  8. Understanding network architectures and troubleshooting with Linux tools.
  9. Expertise in at least one: Kubernetes, Terraform, Networking, Observability.
Additional Requirements

Flexibility and mobility are required, as there may be onsite requirements with clients and partners.
