Job summary

Hastings Direct is seeking a Digital Developer (Front End) to build and maintain modern, scalable front-end applications using JavaScript and React.js. Hybrid working from Bexhill or Leicester, collaboration with UX/UI, backend, and product teams to deliver seamless user experiences.

Key responsibilities include code development, testing, reviews, and contributing to a customer-first approach within an agile Scrum team.

Qualifications

• Experience in agile teams developing enterprise-level applications.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and ReactJS (JSX, Virtual DOM, component lifecycle).
• Experience with React workflows such as Redux or Flux and build tools like Create React App.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, relational databases (SQL) and Java/JVM languages.
• Exposure to SOAP, JSON, XML, and object-oriented design.
• Proficiency with GitHub source control and test-driven development (TDD/BDD).
• Exposure to Guidewire Insurance Suite or other digital insurance products is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify software to agreed standards with minimal supervision, applying best practice and tooling.
• Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and document work including GUnit test coverage.
• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, backend developers and product managers to deliver seamless user experiences.
• Participate in code reviews, maintain high quality and maintainable code.
• Communicate effectively within the Scrum team, attend daily stand-ups and deliver on user story commitments.
• Support junior team members, contribute to the Development Community of Practice and stay current with evolving technologies.
