Job summary

Royal Hampshire County Hospital is seeking a bank chef to join the Catering team. You will prepare fresh meals for patients, staff and visitors, ensuring nutritional standards and portion control. The role involves working in a large-scale kitchen with a rota that includes weekends, and collaboration with dietitians and clinical teams.

Candidates should have a basic food hygiene certificate, and City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 (or equivalent). Experience in quality-driven NHS catering is preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic food hygiene certificate is required.
• City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent.
• Experience in a quality-driven, large-scale kitchen.
• Strong knowledge of allergens and dietary requirements.
• Knowledge of HACCP, COSHH and health and safety practices.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organisation and time management with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook dishes from fresh ingredients.
• Ensure meals are cooked to a high standard and well presented.
• Work to forecast meal numbers and control portion sizes.
• Tailor meals to medical, cultural and specialist dietary needs with dietitians and clinical teams.
• Maintain food safety, allergen awareness and nutritional knowledge.
• Work effectively in a high-volume production kitchen.
• Support function and event catering and wider catering service as part of a team.
