Job summary

Fawkes & Reece Group is seeking an experienced Freelance Resident Engineer / Clerk of Works for a major development in South Wales. The role requires independent oversight across the entire site and robust reporting on quality, compliance and workmanship.

The ideal candidate will monitor multiple trades, challenge non-conforming work, and maintain a comprehensive audit trail of inspections and actions on a Cardiff-based project.

Qualifications

• Membership of MICE or MICWIC is essential.
• Experience in site inspection, quality assurance or Clerk of Works duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and site management.

Responsibilities

• Undertake regular site inspections across multiple work packages.
• Monitor workmanship against drawings, specs, and standards.
• Identify defects and non-conformances, and document actions.
• Produce clear inspection reports, photos and defect schedules.
• Provide independent feedback on site quality throughout construction.
