Job summary

SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Italian interpreters and translators for legal, healthcare, business and conference work. Assignments are remote or on-site across the UK, with flexible scheduling and support from a dedicated operations team.

We value native or near-native Italian and English, recognised interpreting qualifications, and a good grasp of Italian legal or commercial terminology. DBS checks may be required for certain assignments.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Italian and English, spoken and written.
• A recognised interpreting or translation qualification, such as the DPSI or DPI, or equivalent experience.
• Professional knowledge of Italian legal or commercial terminology is advantageous.
• A current DBS check, or willingness to obtain one, for assignments that require it.
• The right to work in the UK for on-site UK assignments.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in legal and commercial meetings using precise Italian legal and business terminology.
• Translate corporate, legal and technical documents to a publishable standard.
• Interpret accurately and impartially, following the professional code of conduct and keeping all information confidential.
• Research subject-specific vocabulary before assignments, particularly for medical and legal bookings.
• Translate and proofread documents carefully, querying unclear source text rather than guessing.
• Attend video and telephone assignments from a quiet, private space with a reliable connection.
• Transcribe and translate audio and video recordings, such as interviews and calls, if you have the skills for transcription work.

SILA Linguists® recruits freelance Italian interpreters and translators for legal, healthcare, business and conference work. Assignments are remote or on-site.

Italian is spoken in the UK by long-settled Italian families and by more recent arrivals working in hospitality, research and finance. The people you interpret for may speak standard Italian or a regional variety such as Neapolitan, Sicilian or Sardinian, and some Italian citizens grew up speaking Spanish or Portuguese in South America.

Work includes civil and criminal court hearings, employment matters, medical appointments and business meetings. Translators handle contracts, corporate documents, technical manuals and certified translations of civil records.

• The right to work in the UK for on-site UK assignments.
• A dependable internet connection and a confidential space for remote interpreting.
