Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking an experienced Freelance Estimator to support a diverse pipeline of UK-wide construction and civil engineering projects, from major structures to infrastructure.

The role involves tendering from first principles, reviewing drawings and specs, developing competitive strategies, and coordinating with pre-construction, commercial and operational teams to deliver robust bids.

Qualifications

• Strong estimating experience in construction or civil engineering.
• Experience pricing complex projects from first principles.
• Good understanding of construction methods, materials and commercial principles.
• Experience with reinforced concrete frames, civils or infrastructure is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Preparing detailed estimates and tenders from first principles.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Developing competitive tender strategies and commercially viable solutions.
• Preparing subcontract and supplier enquiry packages.
• Obtaining and analysing quotations from the supply chain.
• Identifying commercial risks and opportunities within tenders.
• Challenging design and construction methodologies to identify value‑engineering opportunities.
• Supporting tender settlements, bid reviews and client presentations.
• Working with engineering and operational teams to develop practical and buildable solutions.
• Preparing clear estimating handover information for successful projects.
