SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Egyptian Arabic interpreters and translators for healthcare, legal, business and immigration work in the UK, with remote or on-site assignments.

You will interpret between Cairene and Sa'idi and English, prepare glossaries, keep confidences, and maintain flexible availability across diverse assignments. DBS check may be required; you must have right to work in the UK and reliable equipment.

Qualificações

• Native or near-native fluency in Egyptian Arabic and English, spoken and written.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check for healthcare/educational assignments.
• Experience in legal or commercial translation is an advantage.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site assignments.

Responsabilidades

We are recruiting freelance Egyptian Arabic interpreters and translators for healthcare, legal, business and immigration assignments, remotely or on site.

Egyptian Arabic, especially the Cairo variety, is the most widely understood Arabic dialect thanks to Egyptian film and television. Upper Egyptian (Sa'idi) speech differs noticeably, and some clients from rural areas need an interpreter who knows it. Egyptian Arabic speakers in the UK include professionals, students, families and asylum seekers.

Assignments include GP and hospital care, family and criminal courts, police interviews, business meetings and immigration matters. Translators work on Egyptian civil, academic and commercial documents.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in Egyptian Arabic, adjusting between Cairene and Sa'idi speech and Modern Standard Arabic as needed.
• Translate Egyptian certificates, contracts and court papers from Arabic into English.
• Keep everything you hear and read on assignments strictly confidential, and remain impartial throughout.
• Build and maintain your own glossaries for the sectors you work in.
• Attend video and telephone assignments from a quiet, private space with a reliable connection.
• Produce accurate transcripts and English translations of recorded Egyptian Arabic speech, for example police interviews or research recordings.

Requirements

• Native or near-native fluency in Egyptian Arabic and English, spoken and written.
• The DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting), DPI (Diploma in Police Interpreting) or an equivalent qualification is an advantage; CIOL or ITI membership is welcome.
• Experience of legal or commercial translation is an advantage.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check for assignments in healthcare, education or with vulnerable people.
• Right to work in the UK if you will take on-site assignments in the UK.
• A reliable internet connection, headset and quiet, private workspace for remote assignments.
