Job summary

TfGM is seeking a Freelance Cycle Instructor to deliver group and 1:2:1 sessions across the North of Greater Manchester. You will be a National Standard Accredited instructor with a can-do attitude and strong communication.

Hours are flexible to fit other commitments. You will be paid £17 per hour, travel time over 30 minutes is paid, and cycling UK insurance costs reimbursed up to £50 per year. DBS checks required and induction/shadowing sessions.

Your Role & who we are

TfGM is responsible for delivering Adult Cycle Training across all 10 districts and we are looking to fill gaps in the North of the City Region. From Group Courses for those who have never ridden before through to 1:2:1 support for commuters and families. The cycle training offer is our commitment to support those who live and work in Greater Manchester to take up cycling.

Working with people of all abilities, we don’t just need instructors to instruct, but to be cycling heroes, champions who have a ‘can do’ attitude to help remove barriers and instil confidence in others.

Delivering quality training on our popular sessions and courses, including, but not limited to, 1:2:1, Family, Complete Beginner, Confidence Builder, and Introduction to Quiet Roads. You’ll need to be approachable, a great communicator - know bikes, live bikes, and love bikes!

As a freelance Trainer you will be required to undertake the delivery of group and on demand sessions, including the client and session administration that supports this, as well as attend and contribute to instructor meetings from time to time.

We have a flexible approach to freelance working with hours to suit in areas of your choice, so it is ideal for those with other commitments. You will be entitled to a fixed fee of £17 per hour; Instructors will need to predominantly cover sessions within the Northern part of Greater Manchester, to include all parts of Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Oldham and Rochdale -Travel time over 30 minutes will be paid. Trainers are required to hold appropriate Cycling UK insurance, and TfGM will reimburse up to £50 per year towards the cost of this insurance.

Work levels fluctuate throughout the year, with demand typically increasing during the summer months when more training courses are scheduled, and reducing during the autumn and winter.

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an interview which will take place online.

You will be required to complete an assessment and answer some additional competency-based questions around the role.

Successful candidates will need to undergo pre-employment checks, including DBS, after which they will be invited to a 1-2-1 induction session and shadowing sessions ahead of commencing delivery.
