Job summary

First Step Cycle in Hull is seeking a Bikeability Instructor to deliver engaging cycle training for children and young people, building confidence and road-safety skills. No prior instructing experience is required as training will be provided.

You will travel between sites, transport bicycles and equipment safely, and support learners with a positive, inclusive approach in a casual, flexible role from 8am to 3pm. Van driving duties may be required.

Qualifications

• Regular and competent cyclist.
• Strong communication with learners including children.
• Ability to engage learners of all abilities with a supportive approach.
• Must be willing to travel between sites and transport equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the delivery of National Standard Cycle training.
• Load equipment and drive to sessions.
• Complete course paperwork including registers, assessments, course reports, and results.
• Complete risk assessments of trainees, cycles, and training area (including on-road locations).
• Accountable for safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
• Ensure training aligns with health and safety policy and reporting procedures.
• Enable trainees to cycle safely and promote cycling as transport and a healthy activity.
• Dress professionally in line with company uniform.

Cycle Instructor

Are you passionate about cycling and eager to make a positive impact in your community? We are looking for a motivated and reliable Bikeability Instructor to join our team, delivering engaging cycle training sessions that help children and young people build confidence and essential road-safety skills. This is a hands-on, active role where every day brings something different, and you'll play a key part in encouraging safe, active travel across our region. No prior instructing experience is required, as the Bikeability cycle training qualification will be provided.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting safe, enjoyable cycling and able to engage learners of all abilities with a positive, supportive approach. This role requires travelling between sites,ensuring all bicycles and equipment are transported safely. Reliability, good communication skills, and a commitment to helping others develop essential life skills are key.

This is a flexible casual role and sessions are delivered from 8am - 3pm.

*Positions are available for both non-drivers and candidates interested in the role of Cycle Instructor/Lead Van Driver to support the delivery of sessions.

Successful candidates will be provided with the cycle instructor training qualification - 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (T & C's apply)

• Enable trainees to cycle safely, promoting cycling as a means of transport and a fun, healthy activity.
• Dress professionally – In line with the First Step Sports Uniform.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

• Regular and competent cyclist.
• Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all trainees including children, parents, and schools.
• Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence, and give encouragement.
• First Aid and Child Protection Training (Training will be provided for candidates without these qualifications - T & Cs apply - Mandatory requirement)
• Understand basic cycle maintenance (Desirable)
