Role Description

This is a part-time hybrid, flexible working role for a Freelance Accountant. Ideally locally based to Ferndown as it will be necessary to have meetings at the start regarding training and getting to know the clients.

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive self-employed freelance accountant who is ACCA or CIMA registered and has expertise in payroll processing and CIS (Construction Industry Scheme). This role is ideal for an independent accounting professional looking to work flexibly while providing high-quality financial services to a range of clients. You will be responsible for overseeing financial processes, ensuring compliance, and delivering accurate payroll and CIS management, managing financial records, preparing financial statements, analysing financial data, and providing tax advice and support to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and manage financial accounts, tax returns, and management reports.
• Process payroll for employees and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with PAYE, NIC, and pension contributions.
• Administer CIS deductions and prepare monthly CIS returns.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
• Manage bookkeeping and reconciliation of bank statements.
• Assist with financial forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
• Provide tax planning advice and support clients in maintaining compliance.
• Handle HMRC submissions, including RTI payroll filings and CIS returns.
• Support clients with year-end accounts and tax preparation.
• Liaise with clients, HMRC, and other stakeholders regarding financial matters.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

Requirements:

• ACCA or CIMA registered (or actively working towards full qualification).
• Extensive experience in an accounting role, with payroll and CIS expertise.
• Strong knowledge of PAYE, NIC, pensions, VAT, and CIS deductions.
• Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., Xero is essential; Freeagent, BrightPay, Buddy Payroll would be ideal).
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple clients, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Must be set up to work on a self-employed basis (responsible for own tax and NI contributions).
• Experience working with service-based businesses and the construction industry.
• Knowledge of RTI (Real Time Information) payroll submissions.
• Previous experience in a freelance/self-employed accounting role.
